Piemonte

Piemonte is located in the north west of Italy and borders with Lombardia, Liguria, France and Switzerland. It is surrounded by the Alps and has vast flat plains, through which flows the river Po. Turin, the capital is an elegant City with large boulevards and excellent shopping, Asti is a wonderful provincial town in the heart of the attractive hilly vineyard area and the south of the region includes the wonderful spa resort of Acqui Terme, in addition to Ovada, which is famous for wine and cheese.

Piemonte’s gastronomic tradition is well renowned with cheese and truffles on the menu and world famous wines such as Barolo, Nebbiolo and Asti Spumante.

As you would expect, property prices are moderate in the region with prices in the south of the region in the Alessandria province around Acqui Terme, being of particular interest, where the weather can be similar to neighbouring Liguria and where properties are often surrounded by vast open spaces.

Piemonte hardly features on the overseas buyers hit list but this is not necessarily a bad thing. Connections are excellent to other key cities and France and Switzerland, the Ligurian coastline is within easy access as is the fantastic mountain range, where the Winter Olympic Games 2006 are being held and one can’t forget the Western shore of Lake Maggiore. In addition to this, property prices are considerably reasonable.

How to get there

Air
The region is served by the international airports of Genova (Liguria), Turin and Milan (Lombardia), which all have daily flights to the UK.

Car
Piemonte is well connected by road. The A4 runs west to east from Turin to Milan. From north to south, the A6 runs from Savona to Turin.
