Property for sale in Triora, Liguria – a gem of a village

June 20th 2007

Homes in Italy is pleased to add Triora to its portfolio, a lovely village with outstanding views only 40 mins from the Ligurian coastline

Triora is a vibrant friendly village or 'borgo' perched high in the Maritime Alps with spectacular views and scenery. It is a village that is ideal for relaxing - be that walking, sight seeing or just enjoying a drink in a local bar watching the world go by. It is quite common to see eagles majestically soaring overhead.

The village is accessible through the beautiful Argentario valley on an easy road which sweeps through the valley from the coast, which is approx 40 minutes away.

In terms of amenities, the village boasts a hardware store, post office, specialist food store, tabacconist, Osteria, two bars, restaurant, hotel and B&B. There are tennis courts, a park and a bus service from the coast. More shops can be found in neighbouring Molini di Triora and Badalucco. The largest nearby town is Taggia itself, a 40 min drive away, which also offers access to the A10 motorway. Just a forty minute drive is the jewel of the Riviera that is San Remo, and only an hour is the principality of Monaco.

Triora offers a warm welcome coupled with an undeniable old world charm. In 2005 Triora was added to the official list of Italy’s most beautiful villages. The narrow winding roads and paths of the medieval centre often draw comparison with scenes from fantasy films such as Lord Of The Rings or Harry Potter and given the rich history of the area this is perhaps unsurprising. In 1587 the village was the centre of witch trials, and much of Triora's tourism has evolved from this.

Triora receives many visitors each year to the ruins high above the village where the witches are said to have been imprisoned and also to the museum, which has a large exhibit dedicated to this period. This village is perfect for those loving the mountains.

In terms of property, prices are still very interesting and it is possible to purchase a renovated 2 bed apartment for 175,000 eur. For those looking for a project, there are still properties available in the medieval heart of the village. Homes in Italy currently has the following properties available for sale in the village:
